Glen Sefcik

Glen Sefcik joined the Lions as assistant track and field coach for throws in the spring of 2021.

Sefcik has developed and trained over ten individual national champions and four top four team finishes at the national championships. 

He currently is the Assistant Coach at Texas A&M Commerce specializing in the throwing events. He is a former, international track & field coach and served as the Olympic Coach for the Saudi Arabian Amateur Association. He was the National Chairman for U.S. Track & Field Association’s Coaching Education Program and was selected in 1996 as a delegate for the International Olympic Academy for the United States Olympic Committee held in Olympia, Greece.

Sefcik was one of the committee of the USATF Combined Events Committee and was involved in the VISA Gold Medal Program which resulted in achieving success at the 1992 & 1996 Olympic Games. Sefcik was chosen as a guest lecturer at the International Track & Field Coaching Association at the Games in 1996. He is a certified USATF Level I,II, & III Track and Field Coach and has been certified by the USTFCCCA as a Strength Coach.

He is an experienced executive director, project manager, and public relations representative. Also, he is a Certified Corporate Coach for two leadership corporations. He works with World Class Coaching Corporation, established by former UT football All-American, Johnnie Johnson.  He is also certified by the True Growth Academy, founded by CEO’s Byrd Baggett III, former All-American Track and Field athlete at the University of Texas and Ret. Lt. General Lawson Magruder of the US Army.

He has extensive international experience (Russia, Europe, and Middle East), as well as, leadership experience at the national level. Strengths include marketing savvy, business-to-business networking skills, presentation and persuasion skills, and a track record for bringing innovative ideas to the table.  He served as the Executive Director for USA Track and Field Federation’s Florida Association and worked with the Disney Wide World of Sports events during his tenure there.  In addition, he worked on two projects with the ESPN and USA networks.

Sefcik was the head coach at Eastern New Mexico University, Wayland Baptist University, Texas A&M-Kingsville (Texas A&I) and Stephen F. Austin State University. His teams finished in the top four in NAIA and NCAA II National Championships on three different occasions and had numerous All-Americans.

Glen graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1972 majoring in Kinesiology and Communication and served as the student assistant coach for the track and field teams under Coach Jack Patterson and Cleburne Price.  He is a member of the “T” Association.  He served on the Texas Relays Games Committee for over 20 years and was Coach Price’s Administrative Assistant as part of his Relay’s duties.  He received a Master of Arts of Teaching Degree in Education and Communication at Angelo State University in 1975.
