School of Social Work

Social Work is a dynamic, rewarding, yet demanding profession serving individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. We teach students the skills and knowledge to help people solve problems. We have "informed passion" for improving the quality of life for all people, especially for the most vulnerable members of our society.

Welcome to the Social Work Program website here at Texas A&M University-Commerce!! We think ours is an exciting, challenging program, which will prepare you well for a fulfilling career in the Social Work profession. Social workers can be found in a variety of settings in our society, serving children and adults who need our help. We prepare graduates to work in rural and urban communities, in schools, hospitals, and social service agencies. Hospitals, Lutheran Social Services, the Salvation army, YM/YWCA's, State and Regional Departments of Protective Services, Child Welfare Programs----the list of places where social workers are employed is almost endless. Our students learn to work with individuals and their families, with small groups or even in policy or city, county or state legislation development and implementation. About us

The School of Social Work at Texas A&M University-Commerce offers both the Bachelor of in Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) degrees. The undergraduate program prepares students for generalist social work practice to provide beginning professional level services. The BSW program has been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) since 1978. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible for licensure by the State of Texas as a Licensed Bachelor Social Worker (LBSW). The Master of Social Work (MSW) program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge of the advanced generalist model. The program focuses on current social problems and issues that prepare advanced social work practitioners for comprehensive professional service delivery in Northeast Texas. Our MSW program is fully accredited by Council of Social Work Education. This program will work to respond to the tremendous need for graduate social work education in Northeast Texas.
