Termination Process/Procedure

Termination EPA Needed at End of Appointment

We need your help to assure the university’s personnel records accurately reflect termination information. Even if there is a defined ending date for an employee’s tem of appointment, a termination Employee Payroll Action (EPA) is still required to end the employment relationship and update the employment status. When you hire someone or place them in the budget with “from and to” dates (i.e., September 1 through January 15), this does not automatically end their employment relationship. Please remember to process a termination EPA to end the employment relationship so that benefits are canceled, COBRA is issued and personnel records reflect the correct employment status of employees. Another benefit to the university’s records and to you in the department is that once a terminating EPA is processed, training notices and past due reports for required training will discontinue for those former employees.
