Book Exhibit

Authors and publishers may submit items for the Book Exhibit to ISHS2024@tamuc.edu. Book exhibit items must be books published in 2023 or 2024. New editions of previously published books appearing in 2023 or 2024 are welcome. Book exhibit items are due Wednesday, April 17th. There are three acceptable formats

  • a pdf file (book flier)
  • a link to an MP4 video (book trailer)
  • a link to a publisher web page

Call for Papers

We are soliciting papers for the ISHS/HRC 2024 conference. Papers in any academic discipline are welcome. Non-academic presentations and commercial presentations/demonstrations should be submitted as workshops.

The submission of abstracts is now open. You can submit abstracts for

  • Bullet pointacademic papers (live 20-minute presentation followed by a 10-minute discussion),
  • Bullet pointposters (pre-recorded 20-minute presentations uploaded a week prior to the conference and with a live Q&A session during the conference; the length of the Q&A will depend on the number of posters),
  • Bullet pointspecial panels with multiple presenters (live; 90-180 minutes),
    • Bullet point3 thirty-minute slots (20+10) or 6 thirty-minute slots (20+10). No other formats can be accommodated. Please note that panels MUST follow the 30-minute slots (20-minutes of presentation + 10-minutes of Q&A) format of the conference. You may use a slot as a discussion, either by a discussant or by the participants to the panel, but that slot must also be a 30-minute slot (for example, you may have 5 participants and a 30-minute final discussion). Please note that conference monitors will mute participants that do not follow the time guidelines.
  • Bullet pointworkshops (90-minutes),
  • Bullet pointas well as other academic formats related to humor research in any academic discipline.

You are allowed one first authored submission and one non-first authored submission. Panels and workshops must be submitted one week before the regular paper/poster deadline, on February 8.

All deadlines are by midnight Central Standard Time (UTC/GMT -6 hours).

Graduate Student Awards

The International Society for Humor Studies confers conference awards to outstanding graduate students and to more advanced scholars doing notable research in humor studies. Our Graduate Student Awards, which include the Don and Alleen Nilsen Young Scholar Award (DANYS) and the Christie Davies Award (CDA), recognize exemplary graduate student work presented at ISHS Conferences.
