Welcome to Physics & Astronomy!

Kent Montgomery Planetarium Asteroids Astronomy Astrophysics Galaxy Star Cosmology
Greetings!

I'm Kent Montgomery, and it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Texas A&M University-Commerce.  We are one of the oldest departments at the university, with a history that stretches back some 80 years, and alumni that have achieved some amazing careers. Currently we're an active, growing department with faculty and students conducting research in areas ranging from surface physics and thin-film characterization to stellar and nuclear astronomy and astrophysics.  At left you'll find links to these research projects and to all of our academic programs.  When you find something that interests you, please feel free to contact any of our faculty for more information!

The past few years have been a time of exciting growth for our Department and Faculty as we've moved into our beautiful new Science building complete with a state-of-the-art planetarium that hosts over 15,000 visitors per year.  Our number of faculty and majors at the undergraduate and graduate levels are increasing, as are our levels of external research funding.  Most recently, we joined the Southeastern Association for Research in Astronomy (SARA), which provides our faculty and students access to remotely-controllable research-grade telescopes located at premier astronomical observatories in Arizona, USA, and in Chile, South America.  We're refocusing our Broadfield Science Major in Physics degree to matriculate more Texas high school physics teachers credentialed in the field.  Next year we'll be adding a concentration in Astronomy & Astrophysics to complement our growing research emphasis in that area.  Please browse the links at left for details on these subjects and more, including available financial aid.

It is an exciting time to be a Texas A&M-Commerce Lion!  Come join us and Discover the Universe!
