President Keck named President Emeritus

The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents passed a resolution on Thursday, August 16 honoring President Ray M. Keck, III, and bestowing the title of President Emeritus on the university's 12^th president. Keck was asked to serve as the interim president at A&M-Commerce in 2016 after the passing of President Dan Jones. He had previously served as The President of Texas A&M International University since 2001.

President Emeritus Keck was delighted by the honor, stating, “As everyone knows, the circumstances surrounding our arrival in Commerce were devastatingly sad. Our job was to bind up, as best we knew how, deep wounds.  What we didn't imagine was how quickly our university — its campus, students, faculty, staff—the City of Commerce and Hunt County would become deeply embedded in our souls. To be named President Emeritus ensures Patricia and me a lasting, official tie to our university. And we can't imagine another experience as challenging, rewarding, and forever part of our deepest affection and gratitude.”

Dr. Keck announced his plan to step down from his role as president in January 2018 stating, “It is time to redirect passion and energy, to return to teaching and to continue to assist, in every helpful way, a new leader for A&M-Commerce.” Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp lauded Keck's legacy of service and leadership saying, “Both institutions are better off today because of his efforts. We will always be grateful to President Keck and Patricia for their unwavering dedication to our students, faculty, and staff.”

President Emeritus Keck plans to spend the next year on leave, after which he will join the faculty at A&M-Commerce.
