A Conversation with Crystal

How did the Department of Chemistry help you prepare for your career?

My degree plan for a B.S. in Chemistry-ACS Biochemistry with a minor in Biological Sciences helped me explore a broad range of knowledge and fields relative to my planned medical or research career. I worked closely with and gained quality advice and guidance from many people, which allowed me to become fully aware of the career options available. My chosen degree plan has prepared me well to excel in whichever career I choose.

Describe an experience at A&M-Commerce that shaped your personal and professional growth.

The experiences that stand out the most are those I gained working in my organometallics research lab with Dr. Bukuo Ni. Whether we were sweeping the awards at out-of-state research conferences or just sharing laughs over lunches in the lounge, I became close with all the incredible people who make up the Department of Chemistry.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan on preparing for the MCAT while continuing my emergency room job and saving for my upcoming wedding! I intend on referencing and applying the knowledge and experiences I gained through my academic journey to aid in my future endeavors of pursuing either medical school or a doctorate in chemistry.
