Marilyn’s journey started with a Psychology degree from the University of Texas at Tyler. After working as a Hospital Liaison in mental health, she transitioned to an administrative role at the Department of Counseling at A&M-Commerce. Marilyn’s evenings were spent tutoring writing, both in person and online. With a master’s degree in hand, she became an Adjunct Instructor, focusing on first-year writing. Even after retiring, Marilyn continued teaching and assisting dissertation students with APA formatting, alongside teaching conversational English to adult learners.

A Conversation with Marilyn

How do you help students?

I see students as individuals with goals who desire to move forward to their next goals. I also like to learn about students' cultural interests and find ways to bring those interests into the classroom or in their writings.

Why did you choose your area of study and research?

I began studying film because of my love of cinematography and the visual narration of films.
