Undergraduate Research

Chemistry is an experimental science. Hence, the Chemistry Department encourages all of the Chemistry Majors to engage in research. Generally the student will join the research group of a faculty member and pursue an individual research project. This original laboratory investigation allows the student to apply many of the concepts that were learned in the classroom. Additionally, the student learns many new and different techniques not taught in the regular classes.

The student assembles the results in a final written report and often presents the results at a meeting with other undergraduates. The student can elect to receive up to six semester hours credit for the research by enrolling in Chemistry 418.

In addition, visit the Research Experience for Undergraduates website for more information on a summer program for undergraduate students in Chemistry and Surface Science.
