Deadlines for Submission

Thesis Students

Proposals:

Thesis students are not required to schedule their proposal defense through the Graduate School. Please work with your advisor and other members of your committee to schedule and complete your defense. Please keep in mind that students are required to have their committee reviewed and approved by the Graduate Dean prior to holding the proposal defense. To submit your committee for review, please complete this form and submit it to TDS@tamuc.edu. Below are the deadlines for submitting the proposal to Thesis and Dissertation Services (TDS); please keep in mind that all submission materials must be received by TDS on or before the provided date for the submission to be considered turned in on-time. 

  • Spring deadline to submit the proposal to TDS: 4th Friday in April; this deadline is for students who wish to defend the final thesis and/or graduate during the following summer semester. 
  • Summer deadline to submit the proposal to TDS: 4th Friday in July; this deadline is for students who wish to defend the final thesis and/or graduate during the following fall semester.
  • Fall deadline to submit the proposal to TDS: 4th Friday in November; this deadline is for students who wish to defend the final thesis and/or graduate during the following spring semester.

Please keep in mind that you must receive proposal approval at least one semester before the semester in which you graduate. After the review is complete, students are expected to read through the feedback provided by the TDS reviewer and to make the needed changes to the manuscript. Final theses that are submitted without making the revisions requested at the proposal stage will be sent back to the student for additional revisions. 

Final Theses:

Students must submit the Notification for the Final Thesis Defense to TDS@tamuc.edu at least one week prior to the defense date. The form can be accessed here. Below are the deadlines for submitting the thesis to TDS; please keep in mind that all submission materials must be received by TDS on or before the provided date for the submission to be considered turned in on-time.

Deadlines for the Spring Semester

The following deadlines are for students who wish to complete the thesis process and/or graduate during the spring semester. 

  • Deadline to hold the defense: 4th Friday in March
  • Deadline to submit thesis to TDS: 1st Friday in April

Submitting the thesis by the deadline does not guarantee you will be eligible to graduate in the May ceremony. Theses that do not follow the thesis template, do not conform to the writing and formatting guidelines of the selected manual, or do not follow general rules for grammar, syntax, and mechanics will require revisions, which can delay the approval process and impact your eligibility for graduation. For this reason, it is imperative that students ensure their thesis follows the relevant rules and guidelines prior to submitting the final thesis. 

Deadlines for the Summer Semester

The following deadlines are for students who wish to complete the thesis process and/or graduate during the summer semester. 

  • Deadline to hold the defense: 3rd Friday in June
  • Deadline to submit thesis to TDS: 4th Friday in June

Submitting the thesis by the deadline does not guarantee you will be eligible to graduate in the August ceremony. Dissertation Students

Scheduling the Dissertation Proposal Defense

Dissertation students are required to schedule their proposal defense through the Graduate School. Schedule forms are due to the Doctoral Program Coordinator (Vicky.Turner@tamuc.edu) by the 20th of the month prior to the month in which the defense will be held. Students must be admitted to candidacy and have an approved committee on file to be eligible to schedule the proposal defense. The Dissertation Committee Selection Form can be accessed here. Committee Selection forms should be submitted electronically to TDS@tamuc.edu. The Schedule Form for the Proposal Defense can be accessed here. Please note that a copy of the proposal must be submitted with the Schedule form.

If you are wanting to graduate in the same semester in which you defend the final dissertation, the Schedule form must be submitted by 5:00 pm on or before the following dates:

  • Spring semester: February 20th
  • Summer semester: May 20th
  • Fall semester: September 20th
