Enrollment Information

teacherYou might enroll with Extended Studies to:

  • Resolve schedule conflicts
  • Makeup academic deficiencies
  • Meet certification or licensing requirements
  • Update knowledge gained earlier
  • Accelerate academic progress
  • Expand and enrich personal horizons.

Resident students at Texas A&M University-Commerce are allowed to take four courses in residence (on or off campus) and two courses by Extended Studies during the spring or fall semester and one course by Extended Studies during the summer sessions. (The 45-day minimum completion time still applies) Any student wishing to take more than the above stated residence load while enrolled for Extended Studies must secure the approval of the appropriate academic dean.

When an Extended Studies student enrolls for a maximum load in residence, and unless permission for an overload is obtained from the appropriate dean, work on the Extended Studies will be suspended for that semester or term. In that case, the time allowed for the completion of the Extended Studies is automatically extended by the amount of time of resident enrollment. Lessons will not be accepted during the semester in which the overload occurs. This applies to Texas A&M University-Commerce students.

Because you are responsible for determining the acceptability and applicability of Extended Studies credits towards your diploma, degree, or certification, consult your university academic dean or certifying agency before enrolling in a course.

It is recommended that an Extended Studies student enroll in one course at a time. Extended Studies may not enroll the student in more than two courses at any time. No more than 18 hours (6 courses) of Extended Studies may be applied towards a degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Your final exam must be taken three week prior to this deadline for the grade report. Therefore, all of your lessons must be submitted before you take your exam so the instructor will have time to grade lessons and return them to you.
