Fuseini’s Four Golds Highlight Lion Excellence at SLC Meet
East Texas A&M University track and field athletes took home 12 medals, including seven golds, at the Southland Conference (SLC) Outdoor Championship Meet held in Houston, Texas, from May 15–17.
Lion success was highlighted by sprinter Ibrahim Fuseini, who took home four gold medals and was named the meet’s Men’s Most Outstanding Performer. He took home the win in the Men’s 100m, Men’s 200m, and anchored the winning relay teams in the Men’s 4x100m and Men’s 4x400m.
Additional winners included Justin Vincent (Men’s Long Jump), Romi Griese (Women’s Discus) and Veronika Kramarenko (Women’s High Jump). Another superlative award went to sprinter Armani Modeste, who was named co-Male Newcomer of the Year along with Emmanuel Ekuma of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Several SLC Meet records were also broken by the Lions over the weekend. The Men’s 4x100m relay team of Oguz Uyar, Enoch Fosuhene, Modeste and Fuseini broke the record set by the 2023 Lion squad with a blistering time of 39.36 seconds. Additionally, Fuseini broke the meet record in the Men’s 200m with a mark of 20.20 seconds. This time also breaks the East Texas A&M school record for the race.
In three SLC Outdoor meets since joining the conference, East Texas A&M runners have won every Men’s 100m and 200m race. The Lions are also two-for-three at winning the Men’s 4x100m. In addition, the Lions have also taken the gold in the Women’s High Jump all three years.
In the team standings, the Lion men finished fourth with 86 points and the Lion women finished sixth with 63.5 points. This was the final athletic event for Lion Athletics in the 2024-25 academic year.
