A&M-Commerce Alum Recognized as Top 100 Leaders in Education

Dr. Mary L. Thomas was recognized with the Top 100 Leaders in Education award at the second Global Forum for Education and Learning (GFEL) event, held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on June 23-25.

In her 45 years as an educator, Thomas has served as a pre-K-12 teacher and as a campus and central office administrator for Austin Independent School District. She is currently the executive director of State, Federal & Private Accountability for Austin ISD.

Thomas earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from East Texas State University (now A&M-Commerce). She holds a doctorate in educational administration from Texas A&M University.

Dean Kimberly McLeod in the College of Education and Human Services congratulated Thomas for the accolade.

“Dr. Thomas is a distinguished alumna from the College of Education and Human Services at A&M-Commerce,” McLeod said. “We are proud that she chose our teachers college as part of her academic preparation, which—along with her leadership experience—is certainly deserving of such an honor.”

GFEL is a three-day international education conference that promotes networking and knowledge sharing and recognizes the industry-leading work of visionary individuals and organizations.
