A&M-Commerce Counseling Department Featured in Dallas Morning News

The A&M-Commerce Department of Counseling was recently featured in the Dallas Morning News for its innovative partnership with Mesquite ISD (MISD). The counseling department provides free services to students and parents in MISD. Around 15 interns from A&M-Commerce currently provide the services, but demand is so high that the program plans to add an additional 20 interns in January. After earning a graduate degree, individuals who plan to become licensed professional counselors must complete 3,000 hours of post-graduate counseling work. The MISD partnership allows interns to complete these hours while providing valuable counseling services to students and their parents. In Mesquite, nearly 80 percent of students in the district are low-income, so the need is great for low-cost counseling options. Read the full Dallas Morning News article.
