A&M-Commerce Rodeo Team Grabs Pair of Wins at Home Event
The Texas A&M University-Commerce Rodeo Team secured two victories in individual events at the fourth annual A&M-Commerce rodeo, held on Feb. 3 and 4 at the Hopkins County Civic Center in Sulphur Springs, Texas.
Rylee George and Trevor Kernick took home winner's belt buckles in the breakaway roping and tiedown roping events, respectively. A&M-Commerce Rodeo Team members also finished in the top five in several other events.
As a team, the men finished in second place, just 10 points behind Wharton County Junior College for the top spot. The women's team was not ranked in the final standings, joining three other competing schools that did not make the cut.
The second-place finish helped the men's team maintain its position as the top-ranked team in the Southern Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA). The women dropped to second place in the regional standings following last weekend's event.
Nationally, the women's team only fell one place to 16th in the NIRA rankings, while the men's team jumped up to 10th in the country.
