John Kaulfus Named President of TACUSPA

The Assistant Vice President/ Dean of Campus Life and Student Development at Texas A&M University-Commerce, John Kaulfus, was named President of the Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators (TACUSPA) on October 13 at the association's annual conference in Houston.

With over 600 members representing over 60 higher education institutions in the state of Texas, TACUSPA is dedicated to the development, support and promotion of the student affairs profession in Texas.

“Serving as President of TACUSPA is one of the greatest honors of my professional career,” said Kaulfus. “TACUSPA has such a rich history of providing professional networking and educating student affairs professionals on best practices and current trends. Higher education is currently in a state of change, and TACUSPA wants to be at the forefront of that change.”

Kaulfus has overseen the Rayburn Student Center, Residential Living and Learning, Morris Recreation Center, the Counseling Center, Student Health Services, the Child Development Center, Judicial Affairs, Leadership Programs and the Student Government Association.

“Dean Kaulfus is one of the most effective student affairs leaders with whom I have worked,” said Dr. Mary Hendrix, Vice President for Student Access and Success at A&M-Commerce. “His integrity, his genuine care and concern for our students, his ability to create a shared vision, and his ability to solve complex problems all contribute to his effective leadership. I am confident TACUSPA will flourish with Dean Kaulfus at the helm.”

With a bachelor's degree in social work and counseling, and a master's degree in higher education administration from the University of Texas at Austin, Kaulfus is currently working toward a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Before working at A&M-Commerce, Kaulfus has worked at the University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University, Texas State Technical College in Waco, and the University of Texas at San Antonio.
