NBA Champ Bruce Bowen Comes to Commerce
The Hispanic Student Association at Texas A&M University-Commerce will host three-time NBA champion Bruce Bowen on March 27 in Ferguson Auditorium.
“I am excited to bring Mr. Bowen to our campus,” said president of the Hispanic Student Association Adolfo Diaz. “I got the opportunity to meet him in a fundraising event, and I was very impacted by his life story and his rising in the NBA when all odds were against him.”
Bowen will share his experiences as a player and the challenges he had to overcome to become one of the best perimeter defenders in NBA history. After winning three NBA championship rings, he believes it is a choice to be a champion. Bowen spent twelve years in the NBA, playing eight of them with the San Antonio Spurs where he also earned eight NBA All-Defensive Team selections. The Spurs retired his jersey, #12, in 2012, only the seventh retired by the team. Bowen is currently an ESPN analyst.
“As Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, I am delighted to be a supporting partner to bring Mr. Bowen to our campus,” said Adolfo Benavides. “I extend a personal invitation to our students, faculty, staff and community to participate in this day of motivational and inspirational presentations by Mr. Bowen. I look forward to seeing many of you there!”
The event is free, and all students, staff, faculty and members of the community are invited to attend. Attendees may register at BruceBowen.eventbrite.com for a chance to win an autographed basketball. Those who use the hashtag #BallinWithBOWen on Twitter will also be entered to win and attend a private reception to meet Bowen. The person who Tweets the most using the hashtag between March 18 and March 25 will be the winner.
