Operations Management Students Tour Clayton Homes

Students in the Operations Management 307 (MGT-307) course at A&M-Commerce accompanied Assistant Professor Dr. Mojtaba Salarpour on an insider tour of one of the nation's largest manufacturers of affordable modular homes, Clayton Homes.

General Manager Don McCann and Production Manager Joey Ferryman provided the students with an exclusive tour of their manufacturing facility in Sulphur Springs, Texas on November 11, 2022. During the visit, the students witnessed the application of operations management concepts firsthand in the industry at each of the production lines in the manufacturing plant.

The site tour also featured a presentation by Don and Joey for the students that focused on demands, sales, inventory, production line, quality control and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Clayton Homes' supply chains.

“This is the first semester we've offered the tour of Clayton Homes through our undergraduate MGT 307 course,” Salapour said. “The College of Business and Clayton Homes are both committed to conducting such a tour every semester. These site visits provide us with opportunities to provide transformational learning experiences where students learn firsthand about operations management concepts outside the classroom.”

Partnering with companies such as Clayton Homes is a testament to the College of Business' commitment to fostering stakeholder engagement and striving toward innovation and continuous improvement. The site visit tour of the manufacturing site and meeting with Clayton Homes' management ensures the implementation of platforms to create applied knowledge and impactful connections, not just in the classroom, but in the business world as well.
