Sarah Northam Selected to Attend ACRL Immersion 2013

Sarah Northam, Head of Research and Instruction Services at James G. Gee Library at Texas A&M University-Commerce has been selected to attend the Assessment Immersion Track of Association of College & Research Libraries Immersion 2013.

“I am extremely excited to be a part of the ACRL Assessment Program,” said Northam. “It will be a week of intensive learning about developing library instruction programs, and developing tools to assess their impact on student learning objectives. I will also get to be a part of a learning community of librarians who share my interest in library assessment. I look forward to building upon those relationships in years to come.”

The Immersion 2013 program is entitled Assessment: Demonstrating the Educational Value of the Academic Library.  The Assessment Program is intended for librarians serving in leadership roles that are actively teaching, and seeking strategies to improve classroom assessment.

“Assessment is essential to evaluating the quality of our services and providing the information that feeds continuous improvement,” said Greg Mitchell, Director of Libraries. “The ACRL Immersion Program is the leading professional development opportunity for librarians to learn about assessment theory and practices for our educational efforts in information literacy or critical thinking. Admission into this program is highly competitive and on a national scale, so we are quite proud that Ms. Northam was one of the few chosen this year.”

The conference will be held November 20-24, 2013 at the Scarritt-Bennett Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
