South Korean Consul General to visit A&M-Commerce

The Department of Political Science and the Office of Global Programs are hosting Ambassador Suk-Bum Park, Consul General of South Korea on April 15 in the McDowell Business Administration building, room 109. President Jones has invited Ambassador Park to discuss the future of United States and Korean relations and ways to turn these challenges into opportunities.

“Students will gain a greater appreciation of the challenges and opportunities in an interconnected world from someone whose experience in a time of increasing globalization makes him something of an expert,” said Dr. Jeffrey Herndon department head and associate professor of political science. “It is exciting that Texas A&M University-Commerce is to be honored with a visit from the Consul General.”

Ambassador Park has served as Korea's Ambassador to Iraq and Bangladesh. He was also a key negotiator in establishing the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement.  The university shares many close ties with the Republic of Korea through international students and programs.

“Preparing students for a globalized world has become increasingly significant at A&M-Commerce,” said Dr. Jangsup Choi, assistant professor of political science. “This event will provide students an opportunity to meet and hear from a highly-ranked Korean diplomat. Ambassador Park's lecture can help our students to be confident in understanding current global trends and issues and preparing for a globalized world.”
