Texas A&M University-Commerce student Brianna Patt is currently receiving first-hand experience in her chosen field as an intern with Dallas Weekly. Patt, a senior majoring in journalism with a news-editorial emphasis, is also the current opinion editor for The East Texan campus newspaper and has served on the staff since 2017. Patt’s scope of work with Dallas Weekly has run the gamut from politics, features, sports and more. Patt will graduate in August of this year and plans to pursue a career in journalism. She says that some of the lessons she has learned as a journalist are to focus on building a strong portfolio of work, cover as many topics as possible, have a strong initiative, and adapt to the fast-moving field of news. The Dallas Weekly was founded in 1954 by Tony Davis. Continuously published for more than 65 years, the Dallas Weekly touts itself as one of the most trusted voices of the African American community in North Texas. Visit the Dallas Weekly website.
