Tri-Beta 2013 Thanksgiving Food Drive

The Delta Gamma Chapter of Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta), the National Biological Honor Society at Texas A&M University-Commerce, recently hosted a Thanksgiving Food Drive.

“We are very proud of our Tri-Beta students for their very significant effort and accomplishment,” said Dr. Larry Lemanski, head of the department of Biology and Environmental Science. “Meng Sun, an undergraduate Biological Sciences major was one of the Tri-Beta officers who pushed the project forward. Many of the other student members did a very significant amount of work in collecting and distributing the food to the families in the Commerce area.”

This annual food drive raises food for the people of Commerce. Tri-Beta delivered canned goods to the First Presbyterian Church of Commerce on November 21.

“After seeing the shortage of food in their pantry, we were grateful to know the cans we raised will help provide for the holiday,” said Meng Sun, President of Tri-Beta. “We have raised a total of 2,013 canned foods this year, tripling the amount we raised last year. This event was extremely successful and way better than expected!”

Tri-Beta is an honor and professional society for students of the biological sciences. Its focus is to stimulate interest, scholarly attainment, and investigation of the biological sciences, and to promote the dissemination of information and new interpretations among students of the life sciences. Dr. Venu Cheriyath, assistant professor of Biological and Environmental Sciences, serves as the faculty advisor for the Delta Gamma Chapter of Tri-Beta.
