Unveiling of New Texas-Sized Logo on Turf

By Rand Champion

Texas A&M University-Commerce today began the process of laying out its new football turf this morning, unveiling a larger-than-life “Texas-sized” gold Lion head logo.

The logo, perhaps the largest in the nation, measures 50-yards wide by 50-yards long, stretching from sideline to sideline and the 25-yard lines. It highlights the Lions' new home turf, which also features blue end zones with gold lettering, including “A&M-Commerce” in the north end zone and “Lions” in the south.

Designed by AstroTurf, the field is part of a Memorial Stadium reconstruction project which began back on May 21st. In addition to the complete turf replacement, the track surrounding the field has been resurfaced and will be repainted along with other cosmetic upgrades to the stadium.

AstroTurf has set up an installation camera at AstroTurf.com, allowing fans to see the field take shape. A link to the live camera is also available at LionAthletics.com. The field will be completed early next week to be ready in time for the Lions’ preseason practices which get underway August 17.

Fans can see the new turf in person at the 2013 season opener against Sul Ross State on Saturday, September 7. The Lions will kick off the Colby Carthel era hosting the Lobos at 6 p.m., the first of five home games at Memorial Stadium this fall.
