Vela Selected as Under Armour Student-Athlete of the Week
COMMERCE – Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team setter Celeste Vela is named this week’s Under Armour Student-Athlete of the Week after being named to the all-tournament team at the Amy Svoboda Memorial Classic, hosted by Air Force, this weekend.
Vela (Guadalajara, Mexico) recorded 70 assists in the 10 sets this weekend as well as 21 digs and 15 kills. She had a double double with 15 assists and 10 digs against Cal State Northridge on Saturday. Vela posted nine blocks as well.
This weekend, the Lions play three matches in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, playing in the UT-Arlington Invitational. A&M-Commerce takes on Providence at 11 a.m. and UT-Arlington at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and North Texas on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The Under Armour Student-Athlete of the Week will be awarded by Lion Athletics each week during the academic year.
