Honoring Dr. Rosie Sorrells
Celebrating an Extraordinary Life
Dr. Rosie and Mr. H.B. Sorrells Scholarship Endowment was created in 1995 by the remarkable Dr. Rosie Sorrells whose heart for preparing a new generation of educators extended to Lion students. She is known as an education trailblazer and East Texas A&M University alumna who spent her lifetime in service to children and public education. A tireless advocate for children, families and public school education, she remains committed to ensuring that children receive the quality of education they need and deserve.
Sorrells graduated from East Texas A&M with her master’s degree in 1969, which helped prepare her for a career as a Dallas ISD teacher, head of the district’s Early Childhood Education department and member of the Texas State Board of Education. She has since retired.
