A&M-Commerce Doctoral Students Honored by International Association

Two A&M-Commerce doctoral students, Diana Rodriguez and Duc Huy, were recently named 2024 Emerging Leaders by the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC). IAMFC is a division of the American Counseling Association consisting of counselors, therapists, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists focused specifically on couples and families.

Every year, IAMFC names four emerging leaders from a pool of applicants including master's and doctoral students or new professionals. Selected individuals are assigned to an IAMFC committee, project or task for one year and have the opportunity to learn about elected leadership positions within IAMFC.

Rodriguez is a licensed professional counselor in Texas and a nationally certified counselor, working specifically with Hispanic/Latino families and community programs.

Huy focuses on mental health within the Vietnamese community, utilizing documentary filmmaking to share his research. He co-founded the Psychological Wellness Initiative for Communities-Vietnamese, a series of more than 100 YouTube videos about mental health resources for the Vietnamese community.

Both Huy and Rodriguez are attending A&M-Commerce's Counselor Education and Supervision doctoral program.
