The Gold Blazer Award is presented annually to alumni who have provided outstanding service to the Alumni Association and the university.

Oscar Faye Williams

(Class of 1973) completed her bachelor's degree in biology and sociology and went on to begin her career as a laboratory technician at Parkland Memorial Hospital. However, the isolated nature of the work was not well-suited to this lively alumna's personality. She eventually made a switch to zoning and code enforcement where she used some of her established skills but in a new capacity. Fast forward 30 years, and Williams made the decision to retire from her position with Fair Park Community Relations. Never one to take life slowly, she now trains professionals all over Texas in code enforcement via her position as Senior Training Specialist for the Texas Engineering Extension Service. Ms. Williams also maintains a rigorous and well-established relationship with the university through her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, Theta Nu chapter. Williams has helped establish scholarships for students, and she is a member of the Alumni Relations board.
