University Holds Ribbon Cutting for Expanded Dallas Location

Texas A&M University-Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Feb. 6 in honor of its newly expanded Universities Center at Dallas location at 1910 Pacific Place in Downtown. A&M-Commerce President Dan R. Jones was joined by Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, Downtown Dallas, Inc. President and CEO John Crawford and a packed gallery of administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the university.

President Jones opened the ceremony with lighthearted introductions and emphasis on the long-term investment A&M-Commerce has made in Downtown—a relationship that has grown over many years.

“A little over 20 years ago, in 1993, Texas A&M University-Commerce—then East Texas State University—leadership joined with the leadership of other universities in our area and began to explore ways to bring higher education to Downtown,” said Jones. “What those visionary leaders discovered was that by coming together and coordinating and complimenting each other's efforts, they could establish a vital hub for higher education right here in Downtown Dallas.”

John Crawford of Downtown Dallas, Inc. and Mayor Rawlings both commented upon the importance of higher education in Downtown and A&M-Commerce's role in Dallas's future.

“Education is certainly critical to the long term sustainability of Downtown. We've talked to President Jones and others about how your organization can fit into that and become more a part of what we would like to get done and the future of Downtown,” said Crawford. “What you've accomplished here today is a huge step forward in helping us achieve that goal.  You've truly planted a new flag in Downtown Dallas that represents your organization well.”

Rawlings said, “Downtown Dallas is starting to become an education epicenter. With thousands of young people coming and learning here, this is not only a smart move strategically, it's going to change Dallas. Education is going to transform Downtown Dallas and shape its future.”

A&M-Commerce is eager to expand its footprint and the educational opportunities available to students in Dallas with over 42,000 square feet of space in the new location and programs offerings which include:
