Nathan Burt grew up on a farm seven miles outside of Commerce, Texas, where he still lives and raises cattle today! After graduating high school in 2014, he attended A&M-Commerce to pursue a degree in music education. Despite his love for music, he quickly discovered that it was not the career for him. He switched his major to agriculture science and technology with teaching certification. After graduating from A&M-Commerce, he and his wife, Kenzie—also an A&M-Commerce alum—moved to Quanah, Texas, to begin their teaching careers. A few years later they settled back in Commerce with their son, Kyle.

Nathan enjoys spending time with his son working on the farm. He's also known to play Magic the Gathering with friends at Brigandry Games in Greenville or play video games at home.

A Conversation with Nathan Burt

What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending A&M-Commerce?

A&M-Commerce is an excellent school. The faculty and staff are some of the most caring people you will ever meet. Even though the university is now in NCAA Division I, it still has the same feel as a small-town school. Immerse yourself in the college experience. Commerce will be what you make of it; if you get involved, you will have the best time of your life!

What do you like most about your career?

I love that I can help students navigate their college career. College can be very scary and everyone needs help navigating this new world. That is what I am here for. I will help you figure out what classes you need to take or anything else, even if you just want someone to talk to. I'll be that person for you.

How do you help students at A&M-Commerce?

I advise students about classes they should take to complete their major. As an academic advisor, students will meet with me to discuss classes they need to take to complete their major quickly and efficiently. When students come into my office, we will discuss the remaining hours they need to graduate and the courses required for their major and produce a basic schedule for them that is in their best interest as a student.
