Our Rising Lion program is a structured academic and co-curricular summer experience that connects you directly to resources and support focused on helping you transition smoothly into college life. As a participant, you can get a head start on your education by taking two classes during the Summer II semester scheduled to start July 10 through August 10, 2023.
New for 2023 – Choose Your Experience
Rising Lion students have the option of participating in the program by attending A&M-Commerce Main Campus in Commerce, Texas, or A&M-Commerce at Dallas our newest location in the Northpark Central Business District. Students choosing the Rising Lion-Dallas option will have the opportunity to live at home while starting college during Summer II 2023, and remain in Dallas while continuing their program of study offered at the A&M-Commerce at Dallas location.
The Rising Lion Program helps ease your transition from high school to college by providing:
A Head Start
Students begin taking college classes during the Summer II term. Complete two classes for a total of six credit hours.
Rely on guidance from advisors, mentors and faculty who care about your success.
Move into on-campus housing during the summer, meet new friends, join student organizations and get a jump start on the fall semester.
Summer Financial Aid
Assistance may be available to families who meet specific qualifications. Participants should submit the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 FAFSA or TASFA for funding options.
Program Costs for Summer 2023
Students participating in the Rising Lion Program will pay regular Summer II tuition and fees, housing and meal plan costs. The figures shown below are from Summer 2023.

Joining the Rising Lion Program is easy! You will receive an invitation to confirm your participation via your student applicant portal. The priority deadline to accept the invitation to join the program and complete FAFSA or TASFA (if applicable) is June 1.

Rising Lion FAQs
What classes will I take during the Rising Lion Program?
The courses offered will be a part of the A&M-Commerce general education core curriculum which are required for a bachelor’s degree. Classes include math, science, English and history. Based on placement scores, some students may also take developmental courses.
When does the Rising Lion Program begin and end, and when should I move to campus?
The Rising Lion program begins during the Summer II semester which begins on July 10 and ends on August 10. If participating in the Rising Lion program at the A&M-Commerce main campus, participants are required to live on campus for the duration of the program. Students participating in the Rising Lion program at the A&M-Commerce at Dallas location are not provided a housing and meal plan option nor are they required to live on campus with a meal plan.
What if I have vacation plans, a family reunion etc. during the time of the Rising Lion Program?
Due to the abbreviated length of the program, missing just one class could be detrimental to your success in the program. We suggest you plan your vacations around Summer II semester (July 10 – August 10).
How much does it cost to participate in the Rising Lion Program?
Students participating in the Rising Lion Program will pay regular Summer II semester tuition and fees costs. Those students opting to attend the A&M-Commerce main campus will also pay Summer II housing, and meal plan costs. Participants interested in Summer financial aid must submit the 22-23 FAFSA or TASFA to receive eligible funding.
Yes, the Rising Lion Program will take place in person on the A&M-Commerce main campus and the A&M-Commerce at the Dallas location. All Rising Lion participants opting to attend A&M-Commerce main campus are required to live on campus for the duration of the program.
