History - International Students

The graduate program in History strives to promote independent thinking and to contribute to the development of a well educated person. Graduate training helps prepare the student for teaching in a high school, a junior college, a four-year college; for continued study of history at the doctoral level; or for one of the many non-academic areas in which historians work.

Texas A&M University-Commerce offers both a Master of Arts and a Master of Science degree in History.  The Master of Arts requires twelve hours of foreign language. Our program includes courses in American, European, Latin American, and World History.  Graduate work may be undertaken at both the main campus in Commerce and at the Metroplex Center in Mesquite.  Most graduate classes are offered in the evening and during summer sessions.

There are two options within the Master’s program: Option I  requires a thesis, Option II does not.  We recommend Option I especially for those students who intend to pursue graduate studies on the doctoral level.
