A Conversation with Emily Puckett

What is your current employment/career?

“I am currently as a Certified Behavior Analyst Behavioral Transformations.”\

How did you end up in this position?

“I have been drawn to exceptional individuals since I was a young child so it only made sense for me to find a profession that honored my love and appreciation for populations whom stand out from the norm. As a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, I have the opportunity to engage with a wide spectrum of individuals everyday. I am blessed to see children gain more independence and become more integrated into society which often leads to the decreased stress of families and an increased quality of life for the child and stakeholders.”

How did East Texas A&M prepare you for your current position?

“Applied Behavioral Analysis taught by Dr. Kelly Carrero and Introduction to Special Education taught by Dr. Beth Jones provided the foundation for which I have built my career. Both professors are extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic which spark the curiosity and passion of their students. More recently, I have found myself quoting past professors when providing information to coworkers or families and reviewing my old projects and notes so that I can maintain and build on that initial foundation.”

What advice do you have for students?

“Find a mentor and learn as much as possible! Signing up to be a Graduate Research Assistant was one of the best decisions I made during my graduate studies. You are only there for a short amount of time, so utilize your time wisely!”
