Dr. Jovaria Baig is a licensed professional counselor and licensed chemical dependency counselor who is Gottman Level-1 certified. She has been published twice and is eager to complete additional research on marriage and family.

Baig has been in private practice for more than six years. She enjoys working with young adults, students and couples, and clients experiencing addiction-related issues or diagnoses, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, veteran issues and trauma.

She is passionate about teaching and providing the tools necessary for students to succeed in counseling. She encourages students to find their passion and fulfill their educational dreams.

What draws you to your discipline?

I have been in the counseling profession for more than six years and I absolutely love it. I am an LPC and LCDC. I enjoy working with couples, addictions, families, and young adults. I truly enjoy helping people and utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy. What I love about teaching is applying the clinical aspect to theory and providing examples from the counseling world to inspire future counselors. I find it rewarding to instill knowledge and awareness in students so they can succeed in the counseling/supervision profession.

What has been your favorite course to teach?

My favorite course to teach has been COUN 501 Introduction to the Counseling Profession. This course is so exciting to teach because it provides an essential foundation for future counselors. The course sheds light on almost every aspect of the counseling world. It’s exciting to see how master's students’ faces light up with joy and excitement.
