A Conversation with Brooke

Describe your dream job or ideal role after graduating.

My dream job is working with other scientists performing studies and acts that ensure the continuation of birds of prey because I believe many of them are keystone species, and without them, a habitat would collapse.

What is something fascinating that will impact gamebird populations in the future?

I found it interesting that temperature plays such a large role in ground bird reproduction.

What would you tell a student considering A&M-Commerce as part of the Lyon Center for Gamebird Research and the Quail Research Laboratory?

It is an opportunity to gain skills you may need for possible job opportunities or internships in the future. Working at the Quail Research Laboratory can be fun and exciting. However, there are many things to consider if you want to be hired. For example, you have to work closely with your colleagues and be comfortable handling birds to be a good animal caretaker.

How do you balance your academic commitments with other aspects of college life?

I dedicate certain days to tasks required for each aspect of my life.

Outside of academics, what are your passions and hobbies?

My primary passion is ensuring the continuation of certain animals for future generations and protecting animal welfare. My hobbies include reading, cooking, kayaking and gardening.
