I grew up about 15 minutes west of the main campus on a cattle farm where I helped my family raise upwards of 50 cows at any time. The farm life was fulfilling, but from a young age, I had a fascination with computers and thought it would be fun to work with them one day. The first computer I can remember toying with was a Macintosh Classic II that my parents bought for me and I spent many hours playing with the MacPaint software. Over the years, I upgraded to various Dell desktops/laptops until I was able to save up enough to build my first computer. Ever since then, I have felt a passion for tech and I have loved working in this field so far. I have been with the college since 2018 in various positions and am very proud to be in a management role. I look forward to the bright future that TAMUC offers and I hope I can continue to be part of its journey for years to come!

A Conservation With Charles

What do you like most about your career?

I like feeling like I'm helping out a greater cause than just repairing computers. Keeping the campus technology moving helps me feel like the work I do is allowing students to complete their degrees and move on to have successful and fulfilling lives. Every day is a challenge and over the last five years, I have learned something new almost daily. This line of work is perfect for those who are naturally curious and are tinkerers.

How has your role changed since you began working at A&M-Commerce?

In 2018 I began working for TAMUC as a Classroom Technologist student worker and learned many new skills over the year and half I was in that role. I made many connections and met lots of good folks. One day I was fortunate enough to have proven myself to the right people and was offered a position as a Tier II Desktop Technician. After two years of that role, I was bumped up to a Tier III Desktop Technician and shortly after was promoted to my current position. I have learned many skills along the way and my time with CITE has helped mold me for a lifelong career in technology management.
