Brewer Jr. Selected All-SLC Team, Lions Tabbed Seventh

By Lion Athletics

KINDER, La. – Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s basketball forward Jerome Brewer Jr. is selected to second team preseason all-Southland Conference on Tuesday morning, while the Lions are picked seventh in the preseason poll.

Brewer Jr. (Camden, N.J.) is among the 11 preseason honorees on the two all-conference teams, which are voted by the conference’s head coaches, who cannot vote for their own players.

Last season as a true freshman, he appeared in all 33 games last season and started 11 as a true freshman. He shot 51.5 percent from the field, averaging 8.2 points per game and 3.7 rebounds per game. He also totaled 23 blocks last season. Brewer Jr. was also named the SLC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year by the Field of 68.

The Lions, who finished fifth in the Southland a year ago, are picked seventh in the preseason poll, voted on by head coaches and sports information director. All voters cannot vote for their own team.

In their first Division I season, the Lions went 13-20 and qualified as the No. 5 seed for the SLC Tournament.

Southeastern is picked as the top team in the conference, followed by McNeese, who finished eighth a year ago. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, who won both the conference and conference tournament championships and recorded a win in the NCAA Tournament last year is picked fourth.

The Lions begin the season at Texas A&M, hosting Science & Arts (Oklahoma) for the home opener on November 15.

Season tickets are now on sale for renewing season ticket holders and Lion Champions Fund members. More information on tickets can be found HERE.
