A&M-Commerce Names New Honors College Dean Following National Search

Dr. Erin L. Webster Garrett is set to join A&M-Commerce as dean of the Honors College on July 1. She is currently the associate vice provost at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

At VCU, Webster Garrett led the effort to institutionalize experiential learning as a part of every baccalaureate degree. She is a recognized leader in developing large-scale assessment frameworks designed to ensure student access and opportunity to engage in high-quality experiential learning that connects students' personal, professional and civic goals.

Her innovation and leadership have been recognized within her field and within higher education through numerous awards and honors. She has published over 20 works, led more than 30 presentations and invited talks, and been awarded over $530,000 in grants.

“I am confident that Dr. Webster Garrett will build upon the strong Honors College traditions and foundation within this university,” said A&M-Commerce Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Tammi Vacha-Haase. “As an institution that is known for access, innovation and student preparedness, her understanding of national trends and vast professional experiences will be critical in advancing our student success efforts, including career preparedness, implementation of micro-credentials, community engagement and opportunities in Dallas.”

Webster Garrett earned her bachelor's in English with a minor in Spanish from the University of Richmond. She also holds a master's in English from VCU, a doctorate in Literary Studies from the University of Denver and six professional certifications.
