Peter Obuzor Scholarship
Celebrating an Extraordinary Life
In the 1970s, Peter Obuzor immigrated from Nigeria to the United States of America in pursuit of a higher education. After obtaining an undergraduate degree at the Philander Smith College in Arkansas, Peter Obuzor advanced to pursue an MBA at the East Texas State University, now Texas A&M University-Commerce.
His story was one of grit, as the journey was characterized with uncertainty at various milestones but was also filled with hope. Whenever, he found himself at a crossroad, he remembered the famous phrase from “Hamlet” (a novel written by William Shakespeare), “To be or not to be”, which meant keeping his dream alive or abandoning it. Irrespective of the difficulties/challenges he faced, be it social, economic, or cultural, he always chose “to be…”. Peter Obuzor had a strong drive for excellence and as such, this scholarship is meant to add a few drops of fuel to keep the light on or to rekindle the flame. Never give up on your dreams!
Thank you for your support!
Even though we continue to miss his smile, laughter, and genuine kindness, we can still honor his legacy. Thank you to all who are making a tribute for student scholarships. It would have brought him joy, knowing your gift today would make the difference in the lives of Lion students.
