A&M-Commerce Construction Students Participate in Regional Competition

Two teams of students from the Department of Engineering and Technology at A&M-Commerce participated in the 2023 TEXO Foundation Student Competition in Hurst, Texas, on Feb. 20.

Top row from left: Cody Weaver, Garrett Young, David Rojas, Emmanuel Munoz, Josue Rodriguez, Roshan Danuwar, Anthony Eeds, John Miller, Cody Logue, and Orlando Campbell. Bottom row from left: Catherine Rollins, Dr. Ayman Elzohairy, and Pauline Van.

The Construction Building team was tasked with presenting a construction proposal, including a work breakdown, based on a project previously completed by ANDRES Construction. The team presented their proposal to judges who worked on the original project.

The Heavy Civil team was provided with a project previously completed by Austin Bridge and Road, Inc. The team had 16 hours to prepare a bid before presenting their proposal to judges who worked on the original project.

Faculty advisor Dr. Ayman Elzohairy said the teams set the bar for current and future construction engineering students.

“These students are worthy examples for other construction engineering students to follow,” Elzohairy said. “The TEXO competition is an excellent opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-life projects. Competing at TEXO brings attention to A&M-Commerce within the construction engineering community and provides additional value to our graduate students.”
