The Global Human Rights Initiative (GHRI) in the College of Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts at A&M–Commerce seeks to foster a global vision among its students, faculty members and members of the community at large. GHRI members are committed to incorporating themes involving global human rights, citizenship and social justice questions into their research and their classroom content. In that vein, the GHRI is working to provide funding to faculty who are invested in research and teaching themes across the significant and broad spectrum of human rights.

Our Goals

  • Provide financial support to faculty pursuing research endeavors related to the GHRI
  • Provide financial and teaching support to fellows interested in developing new classes that uphold GHRI tenets, including but not limited to: Gender Studies, Latinx Studies, African American Studies, etc.
  • Add more diverse courses that incorporate themes of global human rights and social justice
  • Support a speaker series that relates to course offerings and broader global concerns

Fellowship Application

The Global Human Rights Initiative fellowship advances the college's and GHRI's goals by sponsoring the scholarship of two faculty members whose research specifically engages with global human rights while concurrently applying these elements to their specific disciplines or in a multi-disciplinary manner. If awarded the fellowship, it is expected that the fellow will present on their research project at a CHSSA-sponsored event.

Applications are now CLOSED for the 2023-2024 academic year. Our next research fellowship cycle will begin Spring 2024.
