Learning Through Play

We use Teaching Strategies Gold, an ongoing, observation-based assessment system that helps teachers focus on what matters most for children's success. There are 38 research-based objectives for development and learning to help your child’s teachers link teaching and assessment. These assessments are used to conference with you about your child's development during parent/teacher conferences.

Insect Garden

The Insect Garden, previously known as the Infant Department, serves ages six weeks to 17 months and includes three classrooms: Caterpillars, Butterflies and Ladybugs. These classrooms are designed and activities are planned based on the ages and development of the children currently in the classroom. We group together children of the same ages and development as closely as possible.

All children are involved with learning and developing relationships with teachers each day. The Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers and Twos helps the teachers plan domain-specific activities.

Explorers

Your child will have a new adventure every day in our Explorers Department! The children range in age from 18 to 48 months, and the daily routine is designed specifically for the ages and development levels of the children in each classroom.

Pathfinders and Discoverers, usually 18 months to two years, uses The Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers and Twos curriculum, which helps the teachers plan domain-specific activities.

Adventurers will use The Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers and Twos curriculum and/or Learn Every Day – The Preschool Curriculum, depending on the ages and development of the children currently enrolled. The preschool curriculum is theme based and helps teachers plan developmentally appropriate activities for centers based on the themes.

Trailblazers

Trailblazers consists of preschool and school-aged children. Both programs use The Creative Curriculum. STREAM activities are added to the school-age curriculum when needed. The curriculum promotes learning through exploration and discovery through studies with hands-on activities that build confidence, creativity and critical thinking skills.

Preschool: Pioneers and Navigators

The Pioneers and Navigators are combined for the majority of the day, rotating between one large classroom and three to four small classrooms. The larger classroom is set up with centers. The small classrooms include a room with loud centers (blocks, dramatic play and music), a technology room, a science room and a room with an extra library, art and manipulative area.

School Age: Backpackers and Scouts

We provide after-school care and full-day care during teacher workdays, holidays and summer break from kindergarten through age 12. After-school care offers snacks, homework help and activities. During full days, children are offered breakfast, lunch and snacks. Both after-care and full-day programs provide curriculum activities, including centers such as writing, manipulatives, art, library, dramatic play, blocks, technology and outdoors. They also participate in field trips on the university campus several times a week during the summer.
