Through hands-on experiences, you will gain knowledge, skills and abilities in social welfare practices for transnational work in the United States with individuals from various cultures and backgrounds. Working in conjunction with Texas A&M Soltis Research & Education Center and site visits to various social service agencies in areas of health, mental health, aging, child welfare and criminal justice, you will explore issues of political and economic development, environmental social movements, history and culture.

Travel to Costa Rica for a 9-day immersion in the country and culture geared towards social work majors wanting to impact the world. This program allows students to demonstrate knowledge of the interconnectedness of global dynamics (issues, processes, trends, and systems) in a real-world setting.

Students participating in this program will be provided accommodation at the Texas A&M Soltis Research & Education center. They will be paired with other students in a dorm environment with on-campus and off-campus food options.

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Current Junior, Senior or Graduate Student
  • Eligible to enroll in SWK 492/592.
