In addition to his work, Travis Ball also serves as the President of the Board of Trustees at Chisum Independent School District in Paris, Texas. In his spare time, Ball truly enjoys his time at the gym. It is a special time for him to wind down from a stressful day and totally zone out and go to his “happy place.”

How do you help students at A&M-Commerce?

I help students behind the scenes and they don't even realize it. It's comparable to electricity or water service at your home. You know that you need it and you don't truly understand all the details behind it, but the minute you lose power or water at your home, people get upset or frustrated because their lives are affected. In procurement, we are very rarely praised by the end-user but are highly criticized if we do not provide the necessary goods or services in a timely manner. I am also an adjunct instructor for the College of Innovation and Design.

A Conversation with Travis

What do you like most about your career?

I love my career because it is never the same on a day-to-day basis. I also like that I get to interact with people and am able to serve as a resource to the university. Procurement is my passion and I believe I am in the right career for my skillsets and personality.

How has your role changed since you began working at A&M-Commerce?

My role has expanded dramatically during my tenure at the A&M-Commerce. I began in 2005 as an assistant director of purchasing and contract administration. Today I am the chief procurement officer overseeing areas such as purchasing, contract administration, auxiliary services, logistics, real estate, the procurement card program, the HUB program, and records retention and document management.
