Growing up in a quaint Georgia town, Jodie Wooten dreamed of becoming the first person in her family to attend college. With this goal guiding her, Jodie’s journey spanned Georgia, Tennessee and Texas over a 10-year period, culminating in a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from Texas Woman's University. For 15 years, she worked as a dental hygienist before discovering a passion for teaching.

Seeking a career change, Jodie pursued an Alternative Teaching Certification. Completing the coursework in a matter of months, she landed a position teaching health science, fulfilling a one-year internship. With her Texas teacher certification secured, she embraced a new career path.

From there, Jodie transitioned to A&M-Commerce, finding fulfillment in drawing from her diverse experiences to empower aspiring teachers. She cheers on those chasing dreams with unwavering support.

How can I help you?

At A&M-Commerce, I may be the first contact a student encounters with the competency-cased education (CBE) program. As an onboarding specialist, I assist students from the time they request information and begin the application process through their first term of enrollment. Students have a plethora of questions during this process. I am available along the journey to help them have a positive start.

Educational Background

A Conversation with Jodie

What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending A&M-Commerce?

The competency-based education program is incredible. If a student is motivated to complete their degree with excellence faster than a traditional bachelor's degree, this program is a great fit. The CBE Alternative Teacher Certification program offers a unique benefit as well. Upon completion, a new teacher is launched into the classroom with a portion of their master's degree complete. The competency-based education program is innovative, completely online, affordable and can fit many lifestyles. Just give us a try!

What do you like most about your career?

The most rewarding aspect of my career is instilling belief in students about the possibilities for their future. I love to tell people about the CBE program. But when I speak with a student and I see belief begin to grow, it makes my job worth it. It's as if they see themselves starting their first class, staying the course and walking across the stage at graduation. That wide-eyed moment … it's the best!
