Academic Degree Programs

Agribusiness (BS)

In our program, you'll explore how business and agriculture intersect, focusing on topics like financial management, marketing, planning and organizational strategies. Study the technical aspects of agricultural sciences, helping you understand the production, processing, and distribution of agricultural products. This background can support opportunities in areas such as agribusiness, agricultural finance, extension services, ranch operations and related agencies or consultancies.

Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications (MS)

In the MS in Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications program, you'll explore leadership, teaching, and communication within the agricultural field. You have the option to pursue Texas teacher certification in Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources, and if you're already certified, you may also work toward principal certification. If you’re interested in research, a thesis track is available to support that focus.

Agricultural Science and Technology (BS) Agriculture, Food, and Family Option

Combines three critical aspects of our survival into an academic program leading to careers in production or public service. The program includes teacher certification coursework leading to the preparation of educators in Family and Consumer Sciences but also offers other avenues for working with families as well as the agriculture and food industries.

Agricultural Science and Technology (BS) Industry Emphasis

The Industry emphasis is available to community college transfer students who have earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in a specialized agricultural technology area. Credit for courses in the specialized agricultural technology area will be awarded only from departmentally approved AAS programs that have articulation agreements on file with the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

Agricultural Science and Technology (BS) Ornamental Horticulture Emphasis

The Ornamental Horticulture emphasis can help prepare you for careers in many fields, from golf courses and greenhouses to environmental agencies and corporations. You'll have the opportunity to study ornamental plants, turf grasses, soils, and landscape design, gaining knowledge that could apply to retail centers, wholesale growers, residential yards, commercial landscapes, and more.

Agricultural Sciences (BS)

In our program, you'll explore topics like economics, management, plant and animal operations, pest control, and food sciences. You'll have the opportunity to study how plant and animal products are produced, used, and marketed. This background may support paths in areas such as agricultural services, sales, landscape operations, extension work, ranch management, food production, and quality control.

Agricultural Sciences (MS)

In the MS degree program, you can choose to focus your coursework in areas like agricultural economics, mechanization, animal science, plant and soil science or horticulture. You'll also have the opportunity to engage in graduate-level research using on-campus resources and the University Instructional and Research Farm.

Animal Science (BS)

In the animal science program, you'll explore topics like animal nutrition, reproductive physiology, genetics, health management, and the marketing and production of animal products. You'll have the opportunity to study basic business and management practices. This knowledge can support career paths in areas such as ranch operations, extension services, agricultural sales, regulatory agencies and technical consulting.

Equine Studies (BS)

As an Equine Studies major, you'll explore horsemanship, equine health, reproduction, and nutrition through hands-on courses. You'll gain experience that can support opportunities in areas like ranch work, veterinary clinics, equine sales, and the pharmaceutical industry. This background may lead to paths such as stable management, horse training, riding instruction, veterinary support, or equine-assisted therapy.

Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems (BS)

In the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems program, you'll explore ways to support a more sustainable future in agriculture through both classroom learning and hands-on experience. You'll have the opportunity to study topics like hydroponics and urban agriculture, with some courses available at the Dallas location, as you gain the ability to prepare for a range of possibilities in the evolving agricultural field.

Sustainable Food Systems Graduate Certificate

Our graduate certificate program focuses on the principles of sustainable food systems. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the theories, resources, and strategies involved in fostering these vital systems. Through an interdisciplinary approach, our program seeks to examine various facets of sustainability in relation to food. You’ll engage in coursework designed to introduce you to these important concepts.

Veterinary Biomedical Technology (BS)

If you're passionate about animals, the veterinary biomedical technology program gives you the chance to explore animal science, physiology and related topics. You'll have the opportunity to study care for both large and small animals and take part in hands-on learning experiences in various animal facilities, helping you build a strong foundation for work in animal-related fields.

Wildlife and Conservation Science (BS) Agriculture Track

If you’re interested in wildlife management, ecology, or biodiversity, our program offers the chance to explore those areas through fieldwork, research at the university wetland, and hands-on experiences like internships and field trips. You’ll have the opportunity to study topics such as soils, botany, zoology, and ecology, building knowledge that may support future work in wildlife and environmental fields. Our program is a collaboration between the Department of Biological and Environmental Science and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

Minors and certificates

Food Studies Minor

Our minor in Food Studies offers a chance to explore the multifaceted world of food. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the cultural, social, economic, and environmental dimensions of food systems. Through a variety of courses, our program seeks to broaden your understanding of where our food comes from, how it shapes our lives, and its impact on the world around us.

Sustainable Food Systems Graduate Certificate

Mission

The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources is committed to experiential and pragmatic learning with rigorous educational programs, courses and experiences enriched by quality instruction. We offer high-quality farm and ranch enterprises that create opportunities for teaching and scholarly activities. We foster positive relationships among our faculty, staff and students and maintain a strong public presence on campus, in the community and throughout the state and agricultural industry. Students are prepared to become competent professionals through the sharing and discovery of knowledge across the varied fields of agriculture.

Vision

We will be recognized as the choice for students who seek to positively impact the agricultural industry. The college will offer various programs and opportunities. Recognition of innovative teaching, scholarship, state-of-the-art resources and collaboration with industry and institutional partners will result in school enrollment exceeding 500 students and lead by 2020.
